Egyptian teenager figures out how to turn plastic waste into $78 million in biofuel


Even though turning plastic bottles into biofuel is very common since it has been done for white a while now, Azza’s way of doing it is very different not to mention because she utilizes the catalyst. Aluminosilicate is a chemical that she utilized when breaking done the plastic in order to produce methane, propane and ethane which can later be converted into the biofuel ethanol.

Azza herself has hypothesized that Egypt could actually produce 40,000 tons of naphtha as well as 138,000 tons of hydrocarbon gasses per year which in total adds up to $78 million in biofuel.

Due to her hard work, Azza was later recognized and received the European Fusion Development Agreement award at the 23rd European Union Contest for Young Scientists.

I believe that seeing this is so beautiful and eye opening since many women are still viewed as inferior in various countries (esp third world countries). It is beautiful to see that women are rising up in things that prove to the world that we truly are worthy and intelligent. It is in fact known that males naturally excel in mathematics and science because their life roles technically make them that way. However, isn’t it amazing to see that women can play that role as well?
