HUGE STEP IN RENEWABLES, COULD THIS BE THE BEST YET?

ECO TRADE UK NEWS: A company specialising in turning food waste into power officially opened its new £2.5m facility in Liverpool. The green energy firm H2 Energy, is dedicated to the amazing and desirable idea of turning waste into power. The site, at Wellington Business Park in the north of the city, manufactures the hi-tech “bio-refinery” units which can take the waste and turn it into energy. The processing units resemble huge shipping containers and can be transported to any site in the UK. The bio-refinery operates in the same way as the digestive systems of humans and mammals, by breaking down food waste to produce clean bio-methane which is then burnt to produce electricity and heat. It aims to provide companies with a green and cost-effective way of disposing of their waste, on their own sites, using it to power their businesses, and converting their waste into an asset. The first bio-refinery unit was officially handed over today to the company’s first major client, the 2 Sisters Food Group in Carlisle, which supplies chicken products to major retailers such as M&S. A total of 30 highly-skilled engineering jobs have been created at the Liverpool manufacturing facility, which will rise to around 160 when the factory is fully operational by 2015. The cost of setting up the plant was partly met by a grant from Liverpool's city’s Mayoral Fund to help small to medium-sized businesses get off the ground. Eco enthusiast Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson declaring the facility open, said: “This is about jobs, opportunity and growth. It means Liverpool is at the cutting edge of new technology and sustainability in terms of the environment.” H2 Energy’s CEO, Bill Shotton, said: “Food waste is a major concern in the UK, where 16 million tonnes of food and beverages are wasted every year. “This is costing the country billions of pounds. As the waste degrades, it also releases large volumes of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas which is more dangerous than carbon monoxide. “This new facility will help to manage and exploit the blight of food waste.” We at Eco Trade UK say hats off!! www.ecotradeuk.co.uk
